Next Level Workshop Series

Information in Brief

The best workplaces have a high level of
employee engagement. People are enthusiastic, creative, team-oriented, and mission-driven.

The Next Level Workshop Series is all about building this kind of engaging workplace. Through a
series of four mini workshops over six months, participants gain new insights into communication, respect, purpose, teamwork, and other key factors that distinguish great workplaces from the rest.

How long are the four sessions?
Each session lasts 2-3 hours. Participants conclude every workshop by developing specific action ideas -- which they implement during the two months before the next session. In this way, the learning occurs through action and has an immediate positive impact on the workplace.

Who should attend?
Participants could come from a work unit, a department, a mix of departments, a workplace improvement committee, a leadership team -- there are many possibilities. The same people would attend all four workshops over the course of six months.

Who leads the sessions?
Tom Terez, author of "22 Keys to Creating a Meaningful Workplace" and founder of InnerBest.com and BetterWorkplaceNow.com. Participants get full access to the Better Workplace Now Online Desk Reference and can contact Tom for guidance in between sessions.

How much does it cost?
$11,600 (US) for locations in the continental United States. This is an all-inclusive fixed fee effective January 1, 2007, and subject to change.

When done right, the process of building a better workplace is just that -- a PROCESS. It unfolds over time, giving people the chance to discover, plan, implement, build, achieve, and celebrate.

You've heard of that fabled race between the tortoise and the hare. Wise organizations follow the lead of the tortoise. They know that a slow and steady pace of thoughtful change makes all the difference.

The Next Level Workshop Series is based on this principle of "slow and steady wins the race." It consists of four progressive mini workshops, each scheduled about two months apart over the course of six months.

These sessions put new focus on the most important aspect of every workplace: its people. Participants learn how to take employee engagement to a higher level. They discover new ways to increase dialogue, invention, ownership, respect, and other key factors that bring out the best in people. Best of all, they put their insights to work between sessions -- so the learning is an active and ongoing process with immediate benefits to the workplace.

The four workshops are led by Tom Terez, author of "22 Keys to Creating a Meaningful Workplace" and the founder of BetterWorkplaceNow.com and InnerBest.com.

Details are directly below -- so you can see how the Next Level Workshop Series can benefit your organization.

Workshop 1

The first workshop is a two- or three-hour session led by Tom Terez. Through a series of hands-on activities and meaningful conversations, participants gain new insights into themselves and their workplace. They learn more about purpose, acknowledgment, oneness, support, development, and other factors that are crucial to building an engaging workplace. They recount recent stories to uncover what works and what inspires. They learn about the delicate balance between community and individuality, and between mission and people.

During the last part of the workshop, participants gather their biggest insights to craft several down-to-earth action steps that they can carry out in the next two months. These include individual action steps, team/group actions, and (depending on the participant group) department- or organization-wide actions.

BEFORE WORKSHOP 1: Several weeks before the first workshop, Tom Terez gathers background information through a series of informal phone interviews. A day or two in advance, he is on site to meet people and to learn more about the workplace.

AFTER WORKSHOP 1: During the two months immediately following the workshop, participants implement their action ideas. They will have full access to the Better Workplace Now Online Desk Reference, which provides ideas and ready-to-download tools that go hand in hand with the Next Level Workshops. All participants will also be able to reach Tom by phone and through a Web-based contact form.

Workshop 2

The second session, lasting two or three hours, picks up where the previous workshop leaves off. The focus is on change management. People report on their progress in implementing their action steps, and the information is used to gain insights into the change process. Through conversation with each other and guidance from Tom, participants learn how to improve upon their planning and implementation. The idea here is to make everyone a more skillful and emotionally intelligent change agent.

In a latter part of the workshop, we create a 60-Minute University, giving everyone a chance to become a teacher and learner in a small-group setting. This is a powerful exercise that sets a precedent for every would-be learning organization.

In a concluding step, people once again develop a set of practical action steps for the next two months -- on an individual, team, and organizational level.

AFTER WORKSHOP 2: People implement their action plans over the next two months. Again, they can contact Tom by phone or online.

Workshop 3

THREE WEEKS BEFORE WORKSHOP 3: Each attendee from the first two workshops will be invited to participate in an online questionnaire. Developed by Tom Terez Workplace Solutions Inc., this 15-minute set of questions will be used to gain a deeper understanding of the group, to check progress thus far, and to pinpoint topics that remain the biggest learning priorities for the group. The insights will be used to shape the content for Workshop 3.

The focus for this third session might be trust. Or it might be dialogue and teamwork. Or it might be capacity-building. Whatever the topic, this workshop will involve insightful activities and conversation, a review of progress to date, plus a concluding segment in which participants refresh their set of action commitments for the next two months.

AFTER WORKSHOP 3: At this point, participants will be accustomed to the process of developing and implementing their latest action ideas. As always, they will be able to contact Tom -- though at this stage they will be comfortable turning to each other for guidance, having done so during the various workshop activities.

Workshop 4

TWO WEEKS BEFORE WORKSHOP 4: Tom will contact everyone by e-mail, asking each person to bring a success story to the capstone session -- a story from the past six months that shows real progress in making a good workplace even better.

The first part of this two- or three-hour session serves as a celebratory review of all progress to date. By this point, six months into the process, Tom has become primarily a facilitator for the group. The participants themselves have become their own organizational experts, successful at moving their workplace to a higher level of engagement and capable of making further progress. The session includes a sharing of success stories; an uplifting series of special "awards" given by Tom to the whole group to highlight "The Biggest Surprise," "The Funniest Moment," and so on; a highlighting of key things the group did right on its way to success; and a rundown of five or so essential points for everyone to keep in mind when taking action in the future.

In the next part of this final workshop, participants roll up their sleeves and determine how to maintain their momentum. Having developed action steps at each of the previous three sessions, they are now adept at creating a plan that involves individual, team, and organizational commitments.

At the very end, Tom provides everyone with a meaningful takeaway (such as an appropriate book for each person) as a way of marking the end of the Next Level Workshop Series -- yet affirming that the improvement journey continues.

All of these online resources will be explained at the first workshop, and from that point on, all participants will have full access.

CONTACTING TOM: The Next Level Workshop Series unfolds in four mini workshops over six or so months. All participants will be able to reach Tom by phone and through the Web-based contact form. This access can provide people with needed guidance between sessions.

GROUP COMPOSITION: There are different answers to the question, Who should attend the Next Level Workshop Series? Perhaps your organization or department is small enough that everyone can participate. If not, perhaps you have a management council, a leadership team, or a labor-management task force that would benefit. You might have a committee that has been chartered to advise on building a more engaging workplace, or a specific work unit that's looking to make progress. In all of these cases, the Next Level Workshop Series will bring significant focus and productivity to your gatherings.

FEE: The total cost for all four workshops in the Next Level Workshop Series is $11,600. This is an all-inclusive fee that covers all travel expenses in the continental United States. The fee is billed in two, three, or four equal installments, as preferred by the client, with a first payment of $2,900 due within four weeks of contracting. This rate and these terms are effective January 1, 2007, and subject to change.

SCHEDULING: Due to calendar constraints, a very limited number of organizations will be scheduled for the Next Level Workshop Series during 2007. Call Tom Terez directly (614-571-9529), or click here to use the online contact form at this Web site.
